JL Carrier MRCVS Limited collects and processes personal data relating to current and former clients for the purpose of providing veterinary services. The information we collect may include your name, address, email address, telephone number, insurance details, and relevant information from your primary care veterinary practice. We may also receive personal data from third parties, such as veterinary surgeons or insurers, where necessary to provide veterinary services.
 
Your personal data is held securely and may be shared with veterinary professionals and paraprofessionals involved in your animal’s care, where appropriate. This may include your primary care veterinary surgeon, referral professionals, or insurers.

  • To provide veterinary care (contractual necessity)

  • To manage our business and maintain records (legitimate interests)

  • To comply with legal and regulatory obligations

  • To communicate with you regarding appointments, treatment, and clinical updates

Where required, we will seek your consent before sharing information, unless we are legally obliged to do so or it is necessary for the provision of veterinary care or animal welfare.

We may share relevant clinical information with your primary veterinary surgeon or other professionals involved in your animal’s care to ensure continuity and safety of treatment.

We process personal data in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018.

HOW LONG WE KEEP YOUR PERSONAL DATA
Veterinary records are retained in accordance with professional and regulatory requirements. We retain personal data only for as long as necessary:

  • Veterinary clinical records: minimum of 8 years from last treatment

  • Financial records: 7 years

 
Data will be securely deleted or destroyed once retention periods have expired, unless we are required to retain it for legal or regulatory reasons.

DATA SECURITY
We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. Data may be stored on secure cloud-based systems (including Covetrus Ascend), computers, mobile devices, and secure manual records. While we take all reasonable steps to protect your data, transmission of information via the internet cannot be guaranteed to be completely secure.


YOUR RIGHTS
Under data protection law, you have the following rights (subject to certain exemptions):
